Many of us have small bathrooms that we need to negotiate on a daily basis, and these can become cluttered quickly, causing the space to feel crowded. At The London Bath Co., we believe that small bathrooms can still feel spacious with the use of a few creative bathroom storage ideas.

From shower niches and mirrored cabinets to ladder shelves, this blog takes a look at some innovative bathroom storage solutions so that you can make the most of the space available to you and keep things tidy!

Shower niches and wall niches

Our bathroom designers are big believers in shower niches, which can be built into the design of a bathroom space and open up new storage areas for you. Not only are they incredibly useful, but they also look really attractive.

One of the major benefits of a shower niche is the neat storage it offers. For many people, space is limited (especially in small bathrooms) so a shelf that is built into the wall is really maximising on the available space.

They also allow a sense of continuity to the bathroom design as the same tiling can be used within the niche. Or, if you prefer, you can opt for a contrasting tile.

Under basin storage

Another simple yet highly effective bathroom storage idea involves making space under your basin. This can be done in a number of ways, the most common being integrated cabinets and shelves.

However, if there is no existing storage underneath your basin, a creative solution would involve sourcing a freestanding set of shelves. These are widely available but you will need to check that your chosen unit will fit under the basin.

While this is a creative short-term solution, it really looks best when storage is built-in underneath the sink as it makes the bathroom design look more seamless. If you’re looking to redesign your bathroom, you can speak to our designers about the best options for your space.

Mirrored cabinets

Two essentials in any bathroom are mirrors and cabinets – so why not combine these? Mirrored cabinets are one of our favourite bathroom storage solutions because, as well as looking sleek and stylish, they also save on space by creating a kind of illusion whereby toiletries and other necessities are hidden away behind a mirror.

On top of providing aesthetically-pleasing storage, mirrored cabinets can actually make your bathroom space look bigger because they reflect light and create depth.

Wall-mounted shelves

Wall-mounted shelves are a really useful bathroom storage solution because they don’t take up any floor space, giving you more room to manoeuvre.

They can be particularly effective in a shower – although we prefer niches, wall-mounted shelves are another great way to store toiletries for easy access. They don’t just have to be practical either, as you can use them to position bathroom plants, candles and other accessories to create your ideal atmosphere.

Wall-mounted towel rails

Something that causes arguments in many households is when people leave wet towels in all sorts of places – hung over door frames, on radiators or even left on the floor! In order to prevent these arguments, we believe that the ideal solution is wall-mounted towel rails.

These are usually available as heated towel rails, meaning your towel dries faster and will be lovely and warm when you use it. Wall-mounted towel rails also look really stylish as they are usually available in sleek metals such as chrome.

Ladder shelves

While they are not our preferred option in terms of saving space, ladder shelves can look really striking in a bathroom and they are an effective way to display plants and decorations. Some people also choose to add baskets to their ladder shelves, as this is an attractive, easy and cost-effective way of keeping your belongings in order.

If you’re looking for a quick fix while you consider larger design changes, ladder shelves can work well to tide you over.
